Shape policies to protect human rights
Amnesty International members directly advocate with policymakers to protect human rights in the United States and around the world.
Our volunteer leaders, staff, and partner organizations provide state and federal policymakers with research and information, and we help them develop and enact policies on critical human rights issues.
Amnesty International USA’s Legislative Coordinators are volunteers who work with our staff and members to lobby Members of Congress, state legislators, and other key officials to protect human rights. Legislative Coordinators advise activists in their state on advocacy tactics and issues, and they build networks to win legislative victories.
During the August Congressional recess, many Members of Congress (MOCs) hold local town halls or forums to discuss issues that concern their constituents. These events are important for organizations like Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) to show our policymakers that the people they represent are concerned about human rights issues. This toolkit provides guidance for attending these remote events as well as suggested questions to ask elected officials and candidates.
