FREE PEOPLE FROM ICE DETENTION

No one should be locked up for seeking safety or because of their immigration status, yet Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to unjustly detain tens of thousands of people fighting for their right to stay in the United States. U.S. leaders have expressed commitments to advance human rights and racial justice, but the overwhelming majority of people stuck in detention are Black and brown, both a reflection and reinforcement of systemic racism and racial inequity.

Take action now to demand President Biden free people, including all families, from ICE detention.

HEROES AGAINST GUN VIOLENCE

Violence prevention and intervention programs are a secret superpower in the battle against gun violence. They combine street outreach, powerful community call-ins, and hospital intervention providing survivors and families with counseling, support, and mediation. Study after study has proven the lifesaving value of these community-based programs: in some cities where leaders have had long-term backing for their work, gun homicides dropped by almost half.

Urgent Action: RELEASE CLEARED MEN FROM GUANTÁNAMO (USA: UA 66.22)

Out of the 36 men who remain at the US military prison in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, 20 are cleared for release yet remain imprisoned today. The prison has been open for more than 20 years and over 700 Muslim men and boys have passed through its doors. Many were tortured, all of them detained arbitrarily, and none have faced a fair trial. One of these individuals is Toffiq al-Bihani, who was cleared for transfer out of the facility in 2010 but remains there today. The US government must transfer out Toffiq and the other cleared men and close the facility immediately.

Urgent Action: LEBANESE MAN DISSAPEARED IN SAUDI ARABIA (Saudi Arabia: UA 72.22)

On August 4, 2021, Ali Maziad, a Lebanese national residing in Saudi Arabia, was abducted from his house in the capital, Riyadh by a group of men in civilian clothes. The Lebanese Embassy informed his family three months after his disappearance that he is being detained by State Security. Since then, he has been forcibly disappeared and his family has no information about his fate and whereabouts. Amnesty International urges the Saudi Arabian authorities to immediately disclose the fate and whereabouts of Ali Maziad, release him and ensure he has access to medical treatment and legal representation.
